DPL3 for Data Automation[]
Hi folks! I'm Bureaucrat over at DML Wiki, I was speaking with User:Tbarbe3 yesterday and am just getting acquainted with your awesome wiki! I wondered if you guys had considered requesting Dynamicpagelist3 to be enabled on your wiki to help with some automation of tables and lists from information retrieved from infoboxes?
An example is, say we wanted a table to retrieve the name, type, elements of all Common rarity dragons (like Ceremony Dragon) based on the parameters and values put in each Common dragon's infobox... we could do that with DPL3 and put it in a list or a table and format it. That way, whenever a new Common dragon is added, it's info will automatically pop into its data table, cutting down on maintenance for us. Example, we did this for the Common (classification) page so its table maintains itself.
So for example, the Characters page could have a table of characters with columns coming from whatever parameters are unified across character types, such as Character name, currently obtainable, cost, premium, limited time, # of levels etc., and then it can display these values in a list or table. Though it will grab any infobox info exactly how it was added.
DPL3 can also make lists or tables out of items in a category etc., and there's some more complex usage of it too, mixed with templates to format the results per line.
Just a thought that crossed my mind seeing how much data you guys have. We ended up with so much data that we found maintenance become quite a bit of a challenge, so we looked for ways to relieve some of the maintenance burden and DPL3 was a good fit since at that time we didn't have access to Cargo MediaWiki extension.
